Warsaw, September 5, 2024 – At the Polish-Lithuanian Defense Business Forum, held in Warsaw, Izabela Albrycht moderated a key panel discussion titled “The 'Triple Helix' Model in Cybersecurity: Leveraging State, Business, and Academic Collaboration to Boost Cybersecurity.”
The event was inaugurated by Polish President Andrzej Duda and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, reflecting the high level of importance placed on defense cooperation between Poland and Lithuania.
During the panel moderated by Albrycht, experts focused on the critical need for collaboration between government, business, and academia to enhance cybersecurity capabilities on the eastern flank of NATO, especially in light of the increasing cyber threats following the events of February 24, 2022.
Panelists highlighted the challenges posed by what is being described as the "first digital world war." These challenges have underscored the necessity of a unified response across sectors. While there has been progress in recent years, much remains to be done to advance cyber resilience, cyber defense, and capacity building in cybersecurity.
The discussion also emphasized the urgent need to strengthen cross-sector cooperation and foster innovation in cybersecurity technologies, including AI and proactive threat detection. Experts agreed on the importance of developing long-term strategies to address cybersecurity challenges, including the need for cyber foresight and addressing workforce shortages by building a solid knowledge base to effectively counter cyber threats.
Several initiatives aimed at building digital capacities were showcased, including the SOCCER project, which plays a pivotal role in enhancing cybersecurity through cross-sector collaboration.
